Dhatelo Oil is sourced from the deciduous shrub Prinsepia utilis Royle, which thrives at altitudes between 1800 to 3500 meters in central to western Nepal. Growing up to 3 meters in height, this plant is commonly seen in open wild areas and is often used as a natural fence or firewood.
The oil is extracted from fully ripe, dried Dhatelo seeds with an approximate yield of 25%. With the vast Dhatelo resources found in Nepal, about 40 tons of oil can be produced annually—showing strong production potential.
